Gympie began life as a Gold rush town in 1868 and is located on the Mary River. It is primarily a service centre for the surrounding agricultural district which is known for its tropical fruit (pineapples, macadamia nuts), vegetables, dairy industry, beef cattle and piggeries.
The Compass Gympie campus features large multi-purpose activity areas and kitchen facilities upstairs & a self-contained unit downstairs where
trainees can participate in a range of independent living training opportunities. The campus has a friendly & relaxed feel, capturing both great views & vital cool breezes in summer. The outdoor area contains a growing workshop where trainees engage in a wide variety of building & wood work projects as well as a range of enterprise activities. There is also a developing garden area with raised beds and a Greenhouse supporting horticulture studies.
The campus acts as a base for a considerable number of community related activities and sells a variety of products all made by Compass trainees as part of their vocational activities.
As with all Compass campuses, Gympie focuses on unlocking the asset that is the young person – everyone is different & has their own interests, capacities and challenges. Our well trained staff are there to help the trainees become the best persons they can be – capable of enjoying rich & meaningful lives as part of their community!
Compass Gympie is part of the Compass family of 5 centres from Caboolture to Gympie & it enjoys regular interaction with the other centres throughout the year. Plans for the near future include our own social enterprises – a shop in town, a lawn & garden maintenance business & other similar real world vocational opportunities.
