Oven donation helps trainees cook up a storm!

The Harvest Kitchen would like to thank the Mannix Family for helping the Compass Institute take another step closer to upgrading and expanding the kitchen’s social enterprise. They recently donated a large commercial oven/stove!

The Mannix family are greatly involved in Compass with Levi (Trainee) working hard as part of our Farm team and his brother Jesse (Trainer) supporting the trainees at Palmwoods and in Harvest Kitchen.

With the new oven comes along the Harvest Kitchen’s ability to produce more food, allowing the social enterprise to look into expanding its class numbers.

Thank you again, Mannix Family, for helping the Harvest Kitchen contribute not only to the trainees’ learning and culinary successes, but also for helping the Sunshine Coast community have a greater access to more trainee-produced goods!

Compass Champagne Gala a Diamond Success!

On Friday 8 May, the Compass Institute held its annual Heritage Bank Champagne Diamond Gala supporting the Compass Institute at the Maroochy Events Centre, Maroochydore. The gala, in its third year, raised over $20,000 for the Compass Institute, which focuses on post school education and training for people with a disability. These funds will go directly to expanding the Compass social enterprises.

With major sponsors, Heritage Bank and Coast Life Homes, the night saw the who’s who of the Sunshine Coast business community engaging in bidding wars for an array of hot items on auction.  Breaths were held, as Jim Goulton of Maleny & Beerwah Jewellers announced the winner of the night’s big prize, the $15,000 diamond.

In thanking the major sponsors, corporate partners and donors, David Dangerfield, CEO of The Compass Institute emphasized the fact that the Government does not provide resources for Compass.  He says “We dedicated this event to supporting the social enterprises Compass has created – things like the lawn & garden, window detailing, Harvest Kitchen, Wabi Sabi and the Farm. There is simply no real funding available to make these happen even though they are arguably the most important part of the work we do. Without an ‘end game’ there’s very little opportunity for the young people to get full value from learning, developing skills and having vocational aspirations.”

Compass is now preparing for their next big fundraiser Heritage Bank Golf Day & Sportsman’s Lunch to be held on Friday 11 September.
